Haris Charalambous Collapses and Dies

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo was saddened to announce today that men's basketball player Haris Charalambous, 21, collapsed shortly after 11 a.m. at the beginning of morning conditioning. Charalambous, a junior from Manchester, England, was transported to a local hospital where he passed away.
Athletic trainers on the scene followed established practices, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived after an immediate call to 911.
The exact cause of death will not be known until the Lucas County Coroner report becomes available.
"This is a tragic and unexpected situation," said University spokesperson Lawrence J. Burns, vice president for enrollment services, marketing and communications. "This has been a shock to our entire athletic program and University. Our thoughts are with Haris' family, who has been notified of this tragedy."
During the 2005-06 season, Charalambous played in 23 games and averaged 0.8 points and 0.8 rebounds in 5.4 minutes per contest.
