Bowling Green, OH - The University of Toledo swimming and diving team started off the Mid-American Conference season right with a 146-97 victory over Bowling Green Friday on evening at the BG Student Recreation Center.
Leading the way for the Rockets (2-1) were sophomores Leah Woodard and Megan McKinley. Woodard took first-place honors in the 50 and 100 freestyle (24.76 and 52.49). McKinley won both diving events, landing a dive of 261.30 in the 1-meter dive and a 283.50 in the 3-meter dive. Other winners for the Rockets included Makenzie Manard in the 200 freestyle, Ashley Tremblay in the 100 backstroke and Kylie Gamelier in the 100 breaststroke. The Rockets also picked up two relay wins in the 400 and 200 relays.
"I'm really proud of the way we stepped up to the challenge today," Head Coach Lars Jorgensen said. "Megan (McKinley) and Leah (Woodard) were outstanding and the relays were great. Overall, it was an unbelievable effort."
The Rockets return to the pool tomorrow with a 1 p.m. meet at MAC rival Ohio.
