Athens, OH - The Toledo swimming and diving team swam to a 149-149 tie with Ohio on Saturday afternoon at OU. A night after winning at Bowling Green, the Rockets (2-1-1) were able to match the efforts of the traditional Mid-American power Bobcats (0-1-1) to stay unbeaten in the MAC (1-0-1).
Junior co-captain Makenzie Manard swept the butterfly events for the Rockets, winning the 100 fly with a time of 58.54 and the 200 with a time of 2:07.39. Kylie Gamelier continued her impressive freshman season, winning both breaststroke events, with times of 1:07.76 in the 100 and 2:26.06 in the 200.
For the second consecutive day, sophomore Megan McKinley swept the diving events. McKinley had a dive of 275.48 in the 1-meter and 265.20 in the 3-meter. Junior Brie Henning also had a win for the Rockets in the 50 freestyle.
"I felt that we matched their intensity, it was a fun meet," Head Coach Lars Jorgensen said. "Getting disqualified in the 400 medley relay put us in a hole but I was proud of the way we kept fighting, it reflects the character of the swimmers in our program."
The Rockets return to action next Friday when they host Cincinnati at 4 pm.
