CLEVELAND, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win on Sunday afternoon at the River Oaks Racquet Club when it blanked Cleveland State. With the win, the Rockets improve to 2-2 on the season.
"We had an exceptional level of doubles play today that set the tone for us," Toledo Head Coach Tracy Honko said. "We got on top of them early and intimidated them a little. That gave us an edge and helped us tremendously in singles."
Toledo made it seem easy when it claimed all three of the doubles wins, allowing only six total points from the Vikings. In singles action, the Midnight Blue and Gold showed little mercy as they won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Sophomore Myriam Cueva claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sarah Galon at the No. 1 position. At No. 2, junior Eunice Paravicini knocked off Morgan Ungerott 6-0, 6-0. Senior Jen Meister defeated Rebekah Bicksler 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot and sophomore Daniella Moran beat Paulina Reyes 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4. Sophomore Betsy Hoffman defeated Marcella Capozziello 6-3, 7-5 and freshman Claire Smalley rounded off the 7-0 victory by beating Amanda Cemy 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 6 position.
The Rockets will return to action next Friday, Feb. 6 when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA to play Duquesne. The match is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.
