Bowling Green, KY - Toledo (3-5) faced an early 1-0 deficit against Tennessee-Martin (1-9) after faltering in the first game (30-26), but the Rockets responded by taking each of the next three games (30-26, 30-27, 30-23) to rebound from their loss to Western Kentucky on Friday.
Freshman Kate Bean led the Rockets in the first game by registering seven kills.
Toledo rebounded in the second game and led 16-9 through the midway point although the Skyhawks cut the deficit to three points, 25-22, prior to a Rocket timeout. Freshman setter Sarah Kreher answered back with a kill to stop the UTM rally, which fell apart after Tennessee-Martin ran out of subs and could not reinsert its setter. While the Skyhawks made it interesting, Toledo managed to hold on and take a 30-26 win thanks to hitting .389 as a unit.
The Rockets kept it up in the third game, outlasting UTM 30-27 in a contest in which neither team hit over .100.
UT looked to seal the match in game four, and led 15-11 following a service ace by Corrie Magnus. The Skyhawks were unable to make up much ground, but trailed by just three points, 25-22, near the game's end. Toledo turned it up down the stretch and walked away with a 30-23 win to claim the match.
Junior libero Mollie Murphy posted a career-high 27 digs in the winning effort, while Bean led the offense with a 16-kill, 11-dig double-double.
