Buffalo at Toledo
Nov. 1, 2003 - Glass Bowl
Toledo Head Coach Tom Amstutz
General Comments
"This was a good team win. I thought our offense did a good job tonight. They were solid throughout. I give Buffalo a lot of credit, though, they are tough and getting better and better each week. I really respect their players and coaches."
Concerns about the Toledo Defense
"I think I'm going to vote for their field goal kicker as an all-conference selection. He did a tremendous job. I think we can play better, but once again, I give them credit. I think their running backs ran hard and they played hard as a team. At times, I think their offense played with more emotion and passion than our defense played with. Any time that happens you're not going to be able to stop a team cold turkey."
Comments on Getting the Victory
"It was really important to get that win. Heading into this week, we talked about having a four-game season. This is win number one. We now have a bye week to regroup and get ready for Northern Illinois."
Comments on UT's Offensive Success
"I thought we came into tonight's game with a good game plan. I thought Bruce (Gradkowski) did a nice job and our wide receivers did a nice job catching the ball. We executed well on offense."
Comments on Bruce Gradkowski
"I think he is getting better with each passing week. He is continuing in his maturing process as a young sophomore quarterback. He runs our offense at a high level and he is getting a lot of help from his supporting cast."
Buffalo Head Coach Jim Hofher
General Comments
"I thought our kids played tremendously hard all-around. We faced what really has been the standard in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference. Toledo certainly looked like it team tonight - there's a lot of fire-power on that team. Our guys never backed down - we did struggle at times with some of the match-ups, but our kids fought tremendously. They really fought hard against an excellent football team."
Toledo Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski
Comments on Buffalo
"Buffalo came out tonight and played hard. As our coaching staff preached to us all week, you can't take any team lightly. We had a great game plan. Buffalo attacked us with some different blitzes and looks, but our offensive line and receivers made adjustments and did a great job."
"Our goal is to score every possession we have. We know that the defense will take care of themselves and make plays when they need to."
"Buffalo didn't give up and showed us they're a good team despite their record. We had to keep pushing and couldn't let up."
Junior WR Lance Moore:
(on the offense's recordbreaking night)
"It was an awesome feat. It does great things for our confidence and builds us up for our next three games. It puts us on the right road."
(on catching more long passes tonight)
"Buffalo played a lot of tight coverage and we knew going in after watching them on film that we would have a chance to catch some deep balls."
