Toledo (5-12, 1-4 MAC) suffered a 3-0 (31-29, 30-27, 30-28) setback tonight at Western Michigan (10-4, 3-0 MAC) with each game decided by three or fewer points.
Four Rockets registered double-figure point totals in the match led by sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Culver with 13.5 points (seven kills, team-high five aces and three block assists). The remaining UT players in double figures were sophomore right-side hitter Chelsey Poquette with 12 (eight kills, three aces and two block assists), sophomore middle blocker Corrie Magnus with 11 (10 kills and two block assists) and freshman outside hitter Kate Bean with 10.5 points (nine kills, one ace and one block assist). Magnus paced UT with a .375 attack percentage. Bean and Culver led the Rockets defensively with eight digs and three total blocks, respectively.
The Rockets held a 13-1 advantage in the service ace department thanks to Culver's five aces with senior setter Carrie McCaw and Poquette adding three.
"Our team is continuing to improve and battle each and every match," UT Head Coach Kent Miller said. "We're showing that we're just a couple points away from beating the traditionally strong programs in the conference. We keep fighting through any adversity we face, and I'm very excited about this team's future both in the short-term and long-term."
The Rockets return to action next weekend with two home matches vs. Kent State on Friday, Oct. 10 and Buffalo on Saturday, Oct. 11.
