"This was a very good win for us," UT Head Coach Kent Miller said. "We're learning how to fight through adversity and win even when we don't play our best volleyball. I really liked the courage we showed in coming back when we were down and I think that will pay off for us in the future. Kent State is a good team and we had to come up with some big plays to come away with a win."
The Golden Flashes started out the first game strong by registering a .414 attack percentage while limiting UT to a .139 mark. The Rockets rebounded in the second game by limiting KSU to a .152 mark. Toledo rallied from a 17-10 deficit in the contest with an 11-2 run to take a lead it would not relinquish.
UT continued its momentum in the third game by posting a 30-27 victory. The Rockets were able to hold off the Golden Flash rally after KSU had rallied to within two points at 27-25. Kent State rebounded in the fourth game with a 30-23 victory after posting a .294 attack percentage.
The Rockets then put together a rally of their own in the fifth game after falling behind by an 8-4 margin. UT responded with six straight points to take a 10-8 advantage.
