Athens, OH - Toledo (7-18-1, 1-6 MAC) dropped a pair of one-run decisions (6-5, 2-1) to the host Bobcats (14-13, 6-2 MAC) in a doubleheader this afternoon at Ohio University.
In the first game, the Rockets' late rally fell short as UT plated two runs in the sixth and three in seventh to tie the contest at 5-5. However, Ohio tallied a run in their half of the seventh to secure the win.
Senior RF Kalika Stavroulakis opened the Rockets' scoring with a two-run single in the sixth. Sophomore 2B Vicki Nelson advanced her to third with one out, but UT couldn't capitalize further on the scoring opportunity.
In the seventh, freshman Jessica Horn slugged a two-out three-run homer to left field to tie the game at 5-5.
The Bobcats then won the game in the bottom of the seventh without the benefit of a base hit. The Rockets committed three errors in the frame with Ohio's winning run scoring following an error by freshman SS Jennifer Mielke.
Nelson and Stavroulakis led UT's 14-hit attack in the first game with three hits apiece.
In the second game, the Rockets were limited to just one hit. UT scored its only run in the sixth after Mielke walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on senior CF Laurie Linton's groundout.
Heather Hagen retired the first 13 Rockets she faced until Horn doubled to left field with one out in the fifth inning.
Toledo continues its weekend action with a doubleheader tomorrow at Marshall. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. in Huntington, WV.
