Toledo, OH - Toledo (10-21-1) splits its doubleheader this afternoon with Oakland Univ. (11-28-1) at Scott Park. The Rockets registered a 6-0 victory in the opener before falling by an identical 6-0 margin in the nightcap.
"It was really nice to see us score some runs in the first game," Head Coach Michelle Fagnant said. "But we didn't adjust very well to their pitcher's tempo in the second game. We need to be more aggressive at the plate and try to create some offense in different ways when we aren't hitting well."
Senior Colette McMasters (4-7) hurled six scoreless innings in the opener to earn the win.
A four-run third inning keyed the Rockets' triumph with sophomore 2B Vicki Nelson's two hits and two RBI leading UT's attack.
In the second game, the Rockets saw the Golden Grizzlies score single runs in the first and fourth innings before plating three in the sixth to seal the victory.
Freshman Kim Pettitt (4-11) suffered the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) and eight hits in five innings.
The Rockets will return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14 with a three-game series at Central Michigan.
