OSCEOLA, FL - Toledo (2-7) lost two games on Tuesday at the Rebel Spring Games in Osceola, FL.
The Rockets dropped a 5-3 decision to Liberty before suffering a 4-3 (8 inn.) setback to Monmouth. The loss to the Hawks was UT's third extra-inning defeat this week.
Toledo held a 3-1 lead in its first game of the day but surrendered four runs to the Flames in the fifth en route to its setback.
Junior Tiffany Edgar and freshmen Jennifer Mielke and Kim Pettitt each collected RBIs for the Rockets. Pettitt filled in for sophomore second baseman Vicki Nelson, who was sidelined due to illness.
"Kim stepped in nicely to the second base role," Head Coach Michelle Fagnant said. "She's very versatile and confident and is the type of player who can play anywhere in the field."
Senior Colette McMasters (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and five runs (one earned) in 6.0 innings.
In UT's 4-3 loss to Monmouth, the Rockets rallied from a two-run first-inning deficit to send the game to extra innings.
Junior leftfielder Jenny Schaaf accounted for Toledo's tying runs with an RBI groundout in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh.
The Rockets plated a run in the top of the eighth on freshman Kate Moxim's RBI double, but Monmouth answered back with two runs in the bottom half to register the win.
Freshman Keri Perkins sufferered the loss, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) in 7.1 innings.
"Our inability to execute in key situations is costing us this week," Fagnant said. "That was our sole focus in our six-week preseason and I think the team is beginning to see why. Hopefully, this area will come around with more focus and experience, especially for our younger players who are in key roles."
Toledo continues action Wednesday with a pair of games on Stetson's campus. The Rockets will take on Penn at 3:00 p.m. and the Hatters at 5:00 p.m.
