TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo men's basketball program held its annual post-season banquet tonight, honoring a season which saw the Rockets post a 22-11 mark for their first 20-win campaign in 20 years.
Senior forward Greg Stempin (Macomb, MI - Harper Woods Notre Dame) received the "Most Inspirational Player Award". Stempin finished his career ranked third on UT's all-time scoring list with 1,705 points and was the fourth Rocket player ever to earn first-team All-MAC honors on three occasions.
Sophomore guard Nick Moore (Detroit, MI - Redford) earned the team's "Most Improved Player" award after setting school records for season free throw percentage (.939) and consecutive free throws made (29).
Senior center Craig Rodgers (Minerva, OH - Minerva) was named the Rockets' "Best Defensive Player" and also received the "Varsity `T' Senior Scholar Athlete Award." Rodgers graduated with his degree in elementary education in December and has already begun work on his master's degree.
Freshman guard Keith Triplett (Toledo, OH - Bowsher) received the team's "Academic Award." Triplett, who sat out the season after being ruled a partial qualifier by the NCAA, posted the highest GPA (3.36) on the team in the Fall 2000 semester.
In addition to posting its 22-win season, Toledo advanced to the second round of the 2001 National Invitation Tournament before losing at Alabama.
