Toledo, OH - Head Coach Stan Joplin today announced the signing of 6-7 forward Kareem Milson to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Toledo. Milson is native of Toronto, Canada, but attended Rayen High School in Youngstown, OH the past two years.
Milson averaged 19 points and 15 rebounds as a junior at Rayen High School. He was ranked as the No. 5 power forward in the state of Ohio by Prep Spotlight magazine entering his senior year. However, he was ruled ineligible for his senior season by the Ohio High School Athletic Association because he played three years of high school ball at Sir Robert Borden High School in Toronto.
"Kareem is a good athlete, a good rebounder and a fundamentally sound player," said Joplin. Joplin added that he expects to sign at least a couple of more players in the next few weeks.
Milson joins three newcomers who sat out last season for the Rockets: guard Keith Triplett, and forwards Ricardo Thomas and Robert Sanders. Triplett sat out due to NCAA academic rules, Thomas sat out his transfer season after attending one year at Eastern Kentucky and Sanders elected to redshirt. Sophomore center A.J. Shellabarger, who elected to sit out last year after playing as a freshman in 1999-2000, also will be back for the Rockets.
Toledo was 22-11 last season, the most wins for the school since the 1979-80 season. The Rockets also earned their second NIT berth in the last three seasons.
