KALAMAZOO, MI -
Toledo (12-6, 6-4 MAC) dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 (19-30, 31-33, 30-24, 30-23, 15-12) decision tonight at the hands of Western Michigan (10-6, 5-4 MAC) tonight at Lawson Arena.
The Rockets opened the match strong by winning the first two games, but then the Broncos rallied to win the final three games. The five-game match was UT's sixth of the season and dropped the Rockets' record in those contests to 4-2.
Four Rockets registered double figures in kills, led by junior Heidi Neumeister's career-high 24 along with a .468 attack percentage. Senior Lindsey Kretzmann (15 kills) along with juniors Jessica Buck (15 kills) and Becky Radomski (14 kills) also reached double-digit kill totals.
Sophomore setter Carrie McCaw collected a match-high 63 assists, while junior Bitsy Mayhle (team-high 13 digs) and Buck (team-high six blocks) were UT's defensive leaders.
"We were able to control the match in the first two games," Toledo Head Coach Kent Miller said. "But then we became a little tentative in Game Three and Western started putting pressure on us and our passing didn't respond. We really could have used this win in the conference standings, and now we have big challenge ahead of us tomorrow at Northern Illinois."
The Rockets will take on the Huskies (11-4, 8-2 MAC) in DeKalb, IL on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m.
