Dr. Robert Pocotte lettered in basketball at UT in 1927, 1928 and 1929. He was known as the first "big man" to play at UT. His height (6-3) was a great advantage because he played during the era when there was a center jumper after every field goal. He was the leading scorer for UT during the 1928 and 1929 seasons. He started all games and usually finished all games. During an era when 30 and 40-point team scores were the norm, he once scored 17 points and made a mid-floor shot in the final minutes to defeat Hillsdale College. Following graduation from UT in 1929, he became a doctor, serving as a Rocket team physician for five years. He was an officer in the Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County and an officer on the staff of Toledo Hospital for many years. He spent five years on active service with the U.S. Army as Medical officer with duty in North Africa and Italy.
