Richard (Jocko) Gordon was a member of the UT football team in 1950-1952. He was a 6-2, 260 pound offensive and defensive player who became a regular as a sophomore. He was a co-captain in his senior year and won first-team Associated Press All-Mid-American Conference honors. He and Rick Kaser were the first players from UT to be awarded this honor. He was selected for the MAC Coaches first-team in 1952. In 1951, he was Player of the Week in the Midwest for a game against Western Michigan, during which he had 17 solo tackles and 6 assists. He also played first base for the UT baseball team, turning down a contract to play with the Cleveland Indians. At DeVilbiss, he went to the state baseball finals and state football finals in 1949. After being drafted by Los Angeles Rams and then traded to the Green Bay Packers, he returned to UT to work on his master's in education. He was freshman football coach for a year at UT, was a coach at Scott High School for two years, Central Catholic High School for two years, and Woodward High School for six years. He was selected for the UT College Centennial Team 1917-1968.
