Hall of Fame
John F. Savage is a 1952 graduate of UT. In 1988 Centennial Hall was renamed John F. Savage Hall in his honor. Always active in support of the University, he has been a driving force in the campaign to raise funds for the Glass Bowl Renovation Project. He was a member of the UT Athletic Board and acted as a chairman of the Hole-In-One tournament. He was a co-founder of The University of Toledo Corporation, which has raised more than $25 million in 14 years. He is a frequent contributor to numerous Toledo City League causes and recently was inducted into the City League Athletic Hall of Fame. For many years he has conducted free basketball clinics at his residence for inner-city youths. He provides transportation, instruction and meals for the participants at his own expense. While attending UT, he began selling life insurance and along with his brother, Robert, built Savage & Associates, Inc., into the leading agency for the Columbus Mutual Life Insurance Company. He is the author of three books on selling and is widely sought and world-traveled motivational speaker. While a student teacher in college, Savage coached at the Libbey High School freshman basketball team to an 18-0 record. He was junior varsity basketball coach under former UT basketball coach Bob Nichols at Central Catholic High School for four years. His JV teams had a 56-5 record. He is the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Adrian College and is past chairman of the University of Toledo and Adrian College boards of trustees.
