Frank Baker, a graduate of Scott High School in Toledo, was the workhorse of the Toledo offense (1960-1962) after being shifted from end to fullback halfway through his sophomore season of 1960. Baker led the team in rushing in 1961 and 1962 and carried the ball an impressive 376 times in his three years. Not only did Frank Baker carry the ball, but he averaged 4.7 yards per carry (376-1728) for his career. His 169 carries in 1961 was a then-Rocket school record at the time of his graduation, he was the second-leading all-time rusher in UT history behind Emerson Cole (Cleveland Browns) and ahead of Mel Triplett (NY Giants). Possibly one of Baker's greatest games was his last in a Toledo uniform. He rushed 34 times for 135 yards as the Rockets defeated Tulsa, on the road, 21-18. He was a unanimous pick for first-team All-MAC in 1961 and was selected to the second-team All-MAC in 1962. Following his career at Toledo, he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 1962 NFL Draft and by the Denver Broncos in the AFL Draft.
