Curtis Johnson won varsity football letters in 1967, 1968, and 1969 and was a member of two Mid-American Conference championship teams in 1967 and 1969. As a senior, he was a unanimous choice as a first-team All-MAC defensive back and was named a second-team major college All-American by both the Associated Press and Central Press. He was a tri-captain of Toledo's 1969 MAC and Tangerine Bowl championship team that was undefeated. After graduation, he was drafted in the fourth round in the 1970 National Football League draft by the Miami Dolphins, the highest ever at that time for a Toledo Player. He became a starting cornerback as a first year player in 1970, and went on to start in Super Bowls in 1972 and 1973. The 1972 Dolphins went undefeated and won the 1973 Super Bowl. Johnson played nine seasons in the NFL, all with Miami.
