Leah Neiheisel enters her second season as the assistant coach for the University of Toledo women’s swimming and diving program.
Â
In her first season, Neheisel helped coach the Rockets into a breakout year. Toledo’s individual swimmers appeared on the conference top-10 list 11 times, and Toledo’s relay teams finished in the top-four on four occasions. Neiheisel’s coaching helped lead to Toledo finishing sixth at the 2018 MAC Championships with 254 points, a 14-point improvement over the previous year and the program’s best finish in five years. Led by a core of freshmen and sophomores, 91 percent of Toledo’s points at the tournament came from underclassmen.
Â
With the assistance of Neiheisel, sophomore Izzy Jones earned second-team All-MAC honors, the Rockets recorded eight new entries into the program’s all-time top-10 list, and nine personal records were set at the MAC championship meet.
Â
Following the MAC tournament, Neheisel saw seven Toledo student-athletes earn invitations to the 2018 CSCAA National Invitational, where senior Allison Dicke set two personal bests and freshman Alida Ramden earned one. Neheisel helped Toledo swimmers earn eight NCAA B-Cuts, 71 new personal-best times, and 25 new entries into the program’s all-time top-10 list as a whole during the 2017-18 season. Toledo was also named to the Academic All-America Team for its third consecutive semester after posting 3.49 (Fall ‘17), 3.38 (Spring ‘17) and 3.34 (Fall ‘16) GPAs. Following the completion of the season, seven Rockets were named to the Academic All-MAC team as well.
Neiheisel came to Toledo after serving three years as an assistant coach in the swimming program at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa. In her tenure at Saint Francis, Neiheisel helped the Red Flash to three consecutive winning seasons, including a program-record 11 dual-meet wins in 2016-17.
Prior to her time with Saint Francis, Neiheisel served as an assistant coach for five years for the Mercy Healthplex SeaWolves, a club team out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Under her guidance, over 60 swimmers for the SeaWolves qualified for the Ohio Junior Olympic meet.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Neiheisel swam in college for the University of Nebraska-Omaha. During her time in Omaha, Neiheisel helped the Mavericks to two North Central Conference championships.
Neiheisel graduated from UNO in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, and earned her MBA in 2017 from Saint Francis.
