One of the most decorated student-athletes in University of Toledo and Mid-American Conference history, American Record Holder Briana Shook enters her third year as a member of Kevin Hadsell's staff. Her expertise and experience as a professional, World-Class runner, Shook assists with both men's and women's distance runners. She is also the program's recruiting and travel coordinator as well as business manager.
Shook has been instrumental in helping to guide the women's cross country program to a MAC Runner-up finish in 2005 and an 8th place finish at the NCAA Regional Championships, the highest of any MAC program. She also helped to guide Ebba Stenback ('06) to an 8th place finish at the NCAA Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase and All-American status. Under Shook's guidance, Stenback was also the NCAA Mid-East Regional Champion and #2 all-time in MAC history in that event behind Shook.
Shook graduated from UT in 2004 with a degree in communications and photography. She was a three-time All-American in cross country and track and was also recognized nationally for her academic achievements. Over the course of her career at Toledo, Shook won 11 Mid-American Conference titles and added three runner-up finishes as well. She helped to lead the Rockets to back-to-back MAC Cross Country Championships and was the 2002 NCAA Great Lakes Region Runner of the Year. In 2004, she was named NCAA Mid-East Track and Field Athlete of the Year as well.
During the summer of 2004, Shook made history by regaining her American Record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with her 9:29.32 clocking in Begium. Her American Record is still in tact as no American woman has come within 10-seconds of her time. It is also one of the Top-10 times ever recorded in World History. Shook also has personal-best times of 4:21 (1500m), 16:08 (5000m) and 33:50 (10,000m). Regarded as one of America's top female distance runners, her time in the 3000mSC was the 4th ranked time in the World in 2004.
