Duane Welch, Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS), brings years of experience and dedication to academic excellence and student-athlete development. In Fall 2025, Welch was promoted to Director of Football Athletic Advising, where he immediately helped elevate the program’s academic success. Under his leadership, the football program achieved multiple record-breaking academic milestones, including back-to-back program GPA records in 2025 and 2026, highlighted by a 3.250 team GPA in Fall 2025 and, most recently, the football program earned an impressive 3.391 GPA in Spring 2026.

In addition to football, Welch oversees the women’s softball and men’s tennis programs, continuing his commitment to helping student-athletes thrive both academically and personally. He has also played a key role in two historic academic milestones for Student-Athlete Support Services, contributing to department-wide record GPAs of 3.482 in Fall 2025 and a new all-time high of 3.529 in Spring 2026 for all student-athletes.

Welch joined the University of Toledo in May 2021. He has been recognized as a finalist for the Outstanding Advisor Award. Welch is passionate about supporting student-athletes throughout their collegiate experience and preparing them for success beyond sports.

Outside of work, Welch enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, visiting his hometown of Barberton Ohio, and cheering on his favorite Cleveland sports teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Guardians.
