Rockets Back in Action at the Glass Bowl on Saturday Against San Diego State

TOLEDO, Ohio – Coming off one of their most dramatic wins in program history, the Toledo Rockets look to sweep their three-game homestand when they take on San Diego State on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Glass Bowl. Kickoff is at noon on CBS Sports Network.

The Rockets (2-1) trailed Temple 42-28 with just over a minute remaining, but overcame the deficit with a remarkable comeback, finishing an 80-yard drive with a touchdown, recovering the onside kick and scoring against in just two plays in an 11-second span to tie the game at 42. After both teams scored in overtime, a failed two-point conversion from Temple gave Toledo the victory.

The Rockets have won their last eight games at the Glass Bowl by an average margin of 35.4 points. San Diego State will play its second road game of the season, having fallen to UCLA 28-10 at the Rose Bowl in Week 2.

Toledo and San Diego State have played once, with SDSU winning 17-14 in California on Sept. 24, 2022. Toledo will play the current PAC-12 for the second consecutive year, having played at Washington State last season

• Toledo's comeback against Temple was keyed by John Alan Richter. The junior quarterback set career highs with 36 completions, 429 passing yards and 4 TDs. He was 10 for 15 across the Rockets' final three drives for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
• Richter earned three national honors this week - Davey O'Brien "Great 8," Manning Award Star of the Week and Frisco Bowl Offensive Player of the Week. He was also named MAC Offensive Player of the Week.
• Connor Walendzak totaled three TDs just one week after his first multi-TD game against Central Connecticut State. He scored the eventual winning touchdown in overtime.
• Walendzak has been a touchdown machine, with six total scores over three games - four rushing and two receiving scores. His six TDs rank sixth nationally.
• Toledo's two scores to tie the game spanned just 11 seconds, with touchdown tallies at 1:05 and 54 seconds, with a successful onside kick in between.
•Toledo's comeback against Temple was its first win when trailing by double digits at halftime since Nov. 14, 2023 at Bowling Green. Toledo trailed 24-14 at the break, but took a 28-27 lead before 15 Owls' points set up the late-game theatrics.
• Toledo can make it nine consecutive victories at home with a win on Saturday. The Rockets have won their last eight home games by an average margin of 35.4 points. The Rockets' offense is averaging 56.0 points on this homestand.
• Toledo has been particularly strong after halftime through the first three games, outscoring opponents 69-36, including 35-3 in the third quarter.
• UT can grab its first win in program history over the PAC-12.
