Ella Zoerhoff has first-half hat trick while Sadie Walsh scores twice
TOLEDO, Ohio – Three different Rockets combined for six goals, as the Toledo women's soccer team put together a dominating effort in a 6-2 victory over Mercyhurst in the 2026 home opener at Paul Hotmer Field on Sunday.

The Rockets (2-1) quickly erased an early deficit after the Lakers (0-3) scored in the opening minute, with four unanswered tallies. The final three were scored in the last three minutes of the half. Mercyhurst got a goal back in the second half, before the Rockets responded again with the final two scores to make six on the afternoon. Toledo scored six times for the first time since Aug. 26, 2021 against Detroit Mercy.

Ella Zoerhoff scored the Rockets' first three goals, Toledo's first hat trick since Stephanie Currie reached the mark in 2019. Sadie Walsh followed with a brace in her third career game, scoring once in each half. McKenna Schultz finished off the Rockets' offensive onslaught with a doorstep goal, her first goal since 2021. Both Zoerhoff and Walsh became the first Rockets with multi-goal games since Gabrielle Anulare scored twice against Cincinnati on Aug. 18, 2024.

Before the match, Toledo honored its five seniors – Carys Bourbeau, Keeley Clinton, Kaitlyn Colvert, Kayla Flory and Emma Rhoades.

"I was really proud of the team and how we picked it up after going behind 1-0," Zoerhoff said on the team's performance leading to her hat trick. "We scored, stayed in it and got a couple great PK wins. Props to my teammates for saying I was confident enough to take both PKs. I offered them to my teammates and they said 'no, take them.'"
