Junior running back rushed for 953 yards at Mercer in 2025
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo running back CJ Miller has been named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Tuesday.

The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding running back. Named in honor of SMU legend Doak Walker, the 1948 Heisman Trophy winner and three-time All-American, the award is one of the most prestigious individual honors in college football.

Miller enters his first season with the Rockets following a standout 2025 campaign at Mercer. The Gadsden, Ala. native rushed for 953 yards and 14 touchdowns last season and caught 26 passes for 314 yards and three TDs to earn first-team all-Southern Conference honors.Â

The 5-foot-11, 230-pound Miller brings a physical presence and proven production to the Toledo backfield. In addition to his 2025 numbers, he rushed for 415 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will select 10 semifinalists in November, followed by three finalists later that month. The winner will be announced Dec. 10 during the Home Depot College Football Awards.

Toledo opens the season at Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. on FS1. The Rockets' home opener – "The Biggest Party in Toledo" – against Central Connecticut State is set for Saturday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
