AMHERST, N.Y. – The Toledo women's basketball team stayed close all game, but a rally in the closing minutes came up a possession short in a 69-66 defeat to Buffalo at Alumni Arena on Saturday. Prior to today's contest, the Rockets clinched a spot in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament on March 11-14 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio as a result of Eastern Michigan's loss to Northern Illinois.
Toledo (14-13, 8-8 MAC) led after a quarter but fell behind in the second. UT trailed by as much as eight in the fourth quarter before closing to within a possession in the final two minutes. The Rockets were within one score for the entire final 1:56, but could not tie or pull ahead
Â
The Rockets won the turnover battle, 15-11, but rebounds favored Buffalo 38-33. The Bulls owned a significant advantage at the free-throw line, converting 19-of-23 free throws compared to Toledo's 7-of-9 totals.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"All the credit to Buffalo. We missed too many defensive assignments and were undisciplined with fouling and putting them on the line. They beat us to a lot of loose balls for second-chance opportunities. We've got to find a lot more fight between now and Wednesday."
