Kendall Carruthers leads Toledo with 19 points; Miriam Diala grabs 11 rebounds
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Toledo women's basketball team made a spirited effort to come back from double-digits in the second half, but the late rally fell just short as the Rockets fell to Ball State, 72-68 at Worthen Arena on Tuesday.
Trailing 35-26 at halftime, the Rockets (6-7, 1-2 MAC) trailed by as much as 13 in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth quarter. Toledo rallied in both periods, getting as close as two in the third and three in the fourth, but the Cardinals (12-4, 4-0 MAC) held off the Rockets in the final minute to finish the game.
The Rockets cut their turnovers nearly in half from the Miami game and won the turnover battle, 21-14. Toledo held a narrow edge in rebounding, 36-35, but the Cardinals out-shot Toledo, 53.7%-36.2%.
Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"The mission today was to cut down our turnovers, continue to execute the plan on the defensive end and find a way to get into the 70s offensively. I thought we took really good shots again. I'm proud of our growth and our fight, and I know those good looks will start falling for us."
