Toledo to Host Ball State on Saturday in Ninth-Annual Rockets for Life Game

Rockets and Cardinals to tip off at noon in Savage Arena
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's basketball team (11-10, 5-4 MAC) looks to maintain its position in the upper half of the Mid-American Conference standings during its ninth-annual Rockets for Life game against Ball State (7-13, 3-5 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 31. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. in Savage Arena with streaming on ESPN+. The Rockets are in fourth place in the MAC standings, trailing Miami (21-0, 9-0), Akron (17-4, 8-1) and Kent State (16-5, 7-2).
Sonny Wilson scored a team-high 22 points and Leroy Blyden Jr. added 20 in Toledo's 91-81 setback to the Zips on Tuesday. Toledo shot 53.6% from the field and used a red-hot first half to take a 49-41 lead into the break. The back-and-forth contest featured 20 lead changes and was tied at 75-all with four minutes left before the Zips pulled away.
Jaylan Ouwinga joined Blyden and Wilson in double figures, finishing with 13 points. Sean Craig topped the Rockets with nine rebounds, with Wilson tying his career high with eight assists.
The Rockets shot 64.5% in the opening half and connected on 9-of-12 from beyond the arc. Wilson (17 pts.) and Blyden (11 pts.) combined for 28 first-half points, and Ouwinga gave Toledo its largest lead with the final basket of the opening stanza.
The Rockets are led by the backcourt duo of Wilson (17.1 ppg) and Blyden (16.3 ppg) along with the frontcourt tandem of Craig (12.4 ppg) and Austin Parks (11.3 ppg). Blyden leads all MAC freshmen with 16.1 ppg, while Wilson is dishing out a team-high 4.7 apg. Craig ranks third in the MAC with a team-best 8.0 rpg.
Ball State is riding a season-high three-game winning streak after opening league play with five losses. The Cardinals were idle Tuesday due to their bye in the league schedule. Armoni Zeigler is leading BSU with 13.2 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 2.8 apg. Davion Hill is also scoring in double digits with 12.6 ppg.
