Â
Aaron Foster – Cornerbacks Coach
Aaron Foster will coach the cornerbacks for Toledo after spending the past two seasons at UTEP as the Miners' cornerbacks coach and passing game coordinator.
Â
UTEP's pass defense came up with solid performances under Foster's leadership, totaling 16 interceptions and 77 pass breakups over the past two seasons. In 2024, the Miners allowed a season-low 115 passing yards against Southern Utah and yielded just 132 passing yards at Colorado State. The "Orange Swarm" defense picked off four FIU passes, helping to lead the Miners to their first win of the season. It was the most interceptions by a UTEP defense since 2011 and the most picked off in the Sun Bowl since 2008. UTEP allowed only 183 passing yards in its double overtime win over Kennesaw State.Â
Prior to his stint at UTEP, Foster was the cornerbacks coach/pass game coordinator at Austin Peay in 2023. The Governors finished 9-3 overall and 6-0 in United Athletic Conference action, while claiming a UAC Championship and a FCS playoff bid. Redshirt sophomore CB Jevon Mclver Jr. ranked 12th in the FCS and led the UAC with 13 total passes defended (12 breakups) during the 2023 season. Redshirt senior CB Cedarius Doss was also named to the all-conference second team after leading APSU and ranking second in the UAC with three interceptions. Doss rated fifth in the UAC with 10 total passes defended. Overall, the Governors' defense amassed 63 pass breakups.
Â
Before his season in Clarksville, Tenn., Foster spent two campaigns at Lenoir-Rhyne, serving as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach under Head Coach Mike Jacobs. The Bears ranked fifth at the NCAA Division II level in passing efficiency defense in 2021 (95.3) and ninth in 2022 (100.2). During his time in Hickory, N.C., Foster also helped the Bears place 16th in D-II in scoring defense (16.4 ppg) in 2021 and 21st in total defense (278.0 ypg) in 2022.Â
Â
Prior to his time at Lenoir-Rhyne, Foster was the defensive backs coach and video coordinator at Colgate, and a special teams/recruiting assistant at Wake Forest. In 2017, Colgate led the Patriot League and ranked seventh nationally with 16 interceptions.Â
Â
Foster played collegiately at Bowling Green, where he appeared in 67 games over four seasons and helped the Falcons win the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championship. He started 14 games as a senior when the Falcons went 10-4 and won the MAC title over Northern Illinois.Â
Â
Foster also played professionally for the Tri-Cities Fever of the Indoor Football League after being invited to the Dallas Cowboys' minicamp in 2014.
Foster received his Bachelor of Healthcare Administration from Bowling Green State University in December 2014. He will be joined in Toledo with his wife Julie and daughter Gianna.Â
