YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Toledo women's basketball team was able to build a lead through three quarters, but a rally by Eastern Michigan in the fourth quarter dropped the Rockets 76-71 at the George Gervin GameAbove Center on Tuesday
Â
The Rockets (8-8, 3-3 MAC) led 34-30 at the half and by as much as 13 points in the third quarter. However, the Eagles (8-9, 2-5 MAC) out-scored Toledo, 35-17 over the final 12:27, including 26-15 in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory.
Â
Both teams shot over 50% from the field, with EMU holding a slight edge, 54.9%-52.8%. The Rockets were blistering from three, shooting 9-of-19 (47.4%) to 4-of-13 (30.8%) for EMU. However, the Rockets were whistled for 19 fouls compared to 14 for EMU, leading to 10 more free throws made for the Eagles, who made 16-of-19 from the line.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"We need to play a full 40, and we need to defend at a really high level. When you score 71 points, you should win. I loved our offense. I thought we were extremely efficient, but we failed to execute the plan in the fourth quarter defensively. Credit to Eastern Michigan for getting their players to their best spots. They are a high-powered offense, and we saw that in the fourth quarter."
