Toledo gets goal from sophomore Gabrielle Anulare in tie
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team started Mid-American Conference play by earning a point, as the Rockets tied Northern Illinois, 1-1 at Paul Hotmer Field Thursday afternoon.
Â
The Rockets (3-1-3, 0-0-1 MAC) scored in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead, scoring inside of 15 minutes for the second-straight match. Northern Illinois (2-4-2, 0-0-1) scored in the 38th minute to tie the match. The teams battled to a scoreless draw in the second half, with four shots apiece in the final 45 minutes.
Â
Toledo extended its unbeaten streak to six matches, tied for the fifth-longest in program history, and the longest since Aug. 19-Sept. 10, 2021. Toledo has also scored in its first seven matches to open a season for the first time since 2019.
Â
QUOTING HEAD COACH MARK BATMAN
"Any time you get points in this conference, it's positive. Of course we wanted to win it. I thought as the second half went on, we got pretty dangerous. We survived a bit of a storm from NIU in the first half. Today was really good for some of our young kids who haven't gone through that situation, and hopefully they can build off that heading into Sunday."
Â
ROCKET GOAL SUMMARY
The Rockets finish up the week against Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 21. Kickoff from Paul Hotmer Field is at 1:00 p.m.
