Nicholson earns automatic bid to Saturday’s quarterfinal with fifth-place finish in her heat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior Laura Nicholson qualified for the quarterfinals of the 1500m event at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday afternoon.

Nicholson placed fifth in her heat and 21st overall with a time of 4:15.92 to move on to Saturday's quarterfinals. Her time ranks fifth-best in program history.

The Cork, Ireland native will aim for a top 12 finish and a chance to compete in the field of 24 for a national title at the 2025 NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Ore. Nicholson is looking to join Petronela Simiuc (2021), Stephanie Sherman (2021) and Faith Linga (2022) as Rockets who have competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships under Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough.

Nicholson will continue competition on Saturday, May 31 with the 1500m quarterfinals at 5:15 p.m. She will then wrap up action with the 5000m semifinals at 8:10 p.m.
