TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo softball senior Kendra VanderLugt was selected as the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday.
VanderLugt owns a 3.960 GPA as an early childhood education major. The senior led the Rockets' offense in last weekend's series against Akron.
The Kalamazoo, Mich. native went 6-for-10 with two home runs, three doubles and three RBIs against the Zips. VanderLugt tallied a perfect 4-for-4 day in game one of Saturday's doubleheader with two home runs and four runs scored.
This is VanderLugt's first Scholar Athlete of the Week honor of the season. She earned CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-MAC honors after the 2024 season.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to one MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. Each week schools nominate one female and one male among the sports that are in season at the time. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
