Rockets Clipped by Buccaneers, 5-3 in Series Finale

Luke Walton extends seven-game hitting streak

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team hung close throughout the game, but dropped the series finale, 5-3 to East Tennessee State at Scott Park on Scott Park.
 
The Rockets (18-25) fell behind 4-1 in the fifth inning, but pulled within a run in the sixth. However, the Buccaneers (30-12) added an insurance run in the seventh inning and the bullpen held off the Rockets across the final 3.2 innings.

How It Happened
  • The Buccaneers got on the board first with a two-run triple, capping off three-straight hits with two outs in the third.
  • Charlie Scholvin drove home Troy Sudbrook with a two-out double in the fourth to cut the deficit in half to 2-1.
  • After two walks, the Bucs tacked on two more in the fifth on a just-fair double for a 4-1 lead.
  • The Rockets got back-to-back doubles from Luke Leto and Kaleb Herbert in the sixth. Then, Herbert came around to score on back-to-back groundouts.
  • An RBI single extended ETSU's lead to 5-3 in the seventh.
  • Toledo put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth, bringing the winning run to the plate, but a strikeout and flyout ended the game.
