Nicholson breaks program record in the 1500m with a time of 4:07.17
HILLSDALE, Mich. // WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Laura Nicholson broke the program record in the 1500m event to lead the Toledo track and field team at the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Nicholson broke the tape at 4:07.17, a time that currently ranks fourth in the NCAA, 17th-fastest in NCAA history and bested the previous school record by three seconds. The senior placed second in the event in a highly competitive national field. Sophomore Lianna Surtz recorded a final time of 4:23.27 while senior Alex Bauer had a final mark of 4:26.26 in the 1500m event.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Emily Vining placed fifth with a time of 10:43.98. Senior Karina James took 10th in the 1500m open event, crossing the finish line at 4:27.42.
On the men's side, Dominic Serem took eighth in the 1500m Invite with a time of 3:40.07. Peter McMahon and Joshuah Taylor competed in the 5000m Open placing 27th and 32nd, respectively. Joad Martinho recorded a final time of 14:59.28 in the 5000m Invite.
At the GINA Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., Makenna Englund took third in the high jump with a final mark of 1.54m. Bella Earl competed in the 1500m championship, recording a time of 4:34.00 and placing third. Chloe Pyles took third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.65m while Sydney Caddell took fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100m.
