Senior Yedam Lee will be graduating this spring with her degree in speech language pathology. She was born in South Korea before moving to Virginia when she was five years old and later moving to Lawrenceville, Ga. in eighth grade.
On playing golf for the first time
I started playing golf when I was around nine. My parents don't play golf, but one of my church members brought me to a driving range and I just kept playing.Â
On her key to being successful in golf
I just practiced a lot with my dad. My parents don't play golf, but my dad did a lot of studying on YouTube and Google for golf lessons. My dad and I would practice an hour before school and then after school I would go play nine and then go to an indoor facility. My dad was basically with me the whole day outside of when I was at school.Â
On when she knew she was good enough to play golf in college
I played U.S. Kids golf at first which I'm pretty sure every golfer did when they were younger. When I started playing in World Championship or state events was when I felt could be good. I was playing against a lot of good players. I graduated from high school in 2021, but I was able to play in a lot of tournaments because golf was the only thing you could do.
On adjusting to Toledo and being away from home
My freshman year was hard. I was homesick since it was my first time being away from my parents. It was a 10-hour drive away from them so I really couldn't go home. I also wasn't used to golf being played in a team environment. As I got closer with the team and I got in the flow of it, I started to really learn about myself a lot and grew a lot as a person.
On favorite moments as a Rocket
On the course, it was winning my first golf tournament in Louisiana, but the best thing is having such close relationships with my teammates. I still talk to teammates who graduated last year. I also liked beginning new relationships with our three newcomers this year. Me and Kyleigh (Dull) were able to show them how our team was before they came and help them keep up that tradition.
Other interests besides golf
Pickleball is fun and I play that in the summer. I also like watching crime documentaries. Now that I'm going to be graduating, I'm trying to find some new hobbies.
On her decision to major in speech language pathologyÂ
I have always wanted to help people. I just never knew what field. I was a nursing major but that was way too hard for me. I ended up switching majors quite a bit, and I think speech was perfect for me because it is medical but not too in depth. I also like how it's more one-on-one with clients. I always wanted to be with kids in pediatrics. I love it and it so perfect for me.
On future plans
I would like to go to graduate school and still be involved with golf. Hopefully I can become a graduate assistant and help out with a program and gain experience.
