Nicholson won three races, tallied 30 of Toledo’s 64 points at 2025 conference championship meet
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Toledo women's track & field senior Laura Nicholson was named the 2025 Mid-American Conference Most Outstanding Women's Track Performer on Friday, the league office announced. All postseason awards are voted on by the conference's head coaches.
Nicholson became the first-ever Rocket to win three individual titles at the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships and earned MVP honors at the meet. Nicholson brought home wins in the mile (4:43.58), the 800m (2:06.75, a school record) and the 3000m (9:29.38). The Cork, Ireland native tallied 30 points as an individual, the most by any singular performer at the meet and scored as many or more points as four total teams. She helped the Rockets place sixth overall, the best team finish since 2022 when the squad took fifth.
Nicholson is the first Rocket to win multiple events in the MAC Indoor Championships since 2020 when Petronela Simiuc won the 800m and the mile. She is the fifth Rocket to earn Most Outstanding Track Performer honors and the first since Joy Chirchir in 2022.
Nicholson also earned All-MAC First Team honors for her performance. Four of her teammates earned All-MAC Second Team honors. Mercy Kinyanjui, Lianna Surtz, Samantha Thomas and Alex Bauer were all named to the All-MAC Second Team after placing second in the distance medley relay. The DMR team broke the school record, crossing the finish line with a time of 11:23.70.
