Toledo enters contests third in MAC standings while Buffalo is second

TOLEDO, Ohio – For the second time in three weeks, the Toledo women's basketball team will face Buffalo, taking on the Bulls at Savage Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+, with radio broadcasts on WCWA 1230 AM and The Varsity Network app.

The Rockets (19-6, 10-4 MAC) are in third place in the MAC standings, two games behind first-place Ball State. Toledo clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament on Saturday. Buffalo (22-4, 11-3 MAC) is in second place, one game behind Ball State. UB also clinched a spot in the conference tournament last week.

Toledo saw a seven-game winning streak snapped at Bowling Green, 81-72, on Saturday. Toledo was led by Nan Garcia with 18 points while Kendall Carruthers added 16. Toledo is 11-1 at home this season, having defeated Ball State, 70-66 in its last matchup at Savage Arena.

The Bulls defeated Miami, 68-54, in Oxford on Saturday. Chellia Watson recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Buffalo is winners of three straight and has a 10-2 road record this season.

Toledo leads the all-time series, 29-10, including a 58-55 victory at Buffalo on Feb. 5. The Rockets are 15-2 all-time at home in the series.

Rebounding Rockets

Toledo has established itself as one of the top rebounding teams in the country, ranking 22nd in Division I with a +7.8 rebounding margin.
Toledo has out-rebounded 17 of its last 19 opponents dating back to Dec. 6.
The Rockets out-rebounded BG, 32-23, on Saturday. Toledo allowed a season-low 23 rebounds to Bowling Green in both matchups.
Toledo out-rebounded Buffalo, 45-22 in the Feb. 5 meeting, holding the Bulls to its lowest rebound total of the season.

Rockets at Home

Toledo has won six-straight games at Savage Arena and is 11-1 at home this season.
After last week's four-point victory over Ball State, Toledo has won four home games which were decided by fewer than five points.
Toledo has averaged 4,350 fans this season, currently ranking as its second-highest average attendance in program history. That average is also 29th in Division I.
Toledo has drawn over 4,000 fans in six-straight home games and nine times this season.

Garcia Giving Good Minutes

Over her last five games, Nan Garcia is averaging 12.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
She set a season high and was two short of a career best with 18 points at Bowling Green. She shot 8-of-14, tying her career high in field goals made.
The graduate student grabbed nine rebounds against Ball State, her second-highest total of the season.
Garcia has also shot 7-of-14 (50%) from three-point range in her last four games, with three makes from distance against Old Dominion (Feb. 8) and Akron (Feb. 15).

Of Note

A win would clinch Toledo's fourth-straight 20-win season. Toledo last secured four straight seasons of 20-or-more wins from 2009-10 to 2012-13.
Toledo's defense has allowed fewer than 60 points eight times in 14 conference games. Toledo held Buffalo to its lowest point total of the season in the Feb. 5 matchup.
Toledo is 5-0 in games following a loss this season.
Sammi Mikonowicz is fourth in the league in field goal percentage (49.8%), seventh in free throw percentage (82.9%) and tied for eighth in rebound average (6.4). Mikonowicz scored 23 points in the win over Ball State and is 13th in the MAC in scoring average (13.4).
Kendall Carruthers sits eighth in the MAC in free throw percentage at 82.8%.
As a team, Toledo has shot over 80% from the foul line with at least 10 makes in each of their last three games.
