Toledo to Visit Second-Place Miami on Tuesday Night

Rockets bring five-game winning streak into its lone meeting vs. RedHawks

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's basketball team (15-8, 8-2 MAC) puts its five-game winning streak on the line on Tuesday, Feb. 11 when it visits Miami (18-5, 9-1 MAC) in a battle of two of the Mid-American Conference's top teams. The contest will tip off at 7:00 p.m. in Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio and be streamed on ESPN+.

The Rockets are currently in third place in the Mid-American Conference standings, a game behind the RedHawks and two in back of first-place Akron (18-5, 10-0). UT's contest vs. Miami will be the only meeting between the two schools this season.

LAST TIME OUT
Toledo rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit in Saturday's 72-69 home victory over James Madison. Sam Lewis scored a team-high 22 points in the victory, while Sonny Wilson tallied 16 points. The Rockets trailed 67-63 with 5:34 left and held JMU to two points the rest of the game. Lewis' layup gave Toledo a 70-67 lead with 55 seconds left, and Bryce Ford hit two free throws with seven seconds remaining for the final margin of victory.

ROCKETS' LEADERS
Sonny Wilson and Sam Lewis are leading Toledo with 15.6 and 15.3 ppg, respectively. Javan Simmons is averaging 12.3 ppg and a team-high 6.6 rpg. Lewis and Bryce Ford rank among the MAC's top perimeter shooters. Lewis ranks second with a 46.5 3PTFG%, while Ford is third at 44.1%.

ABOUT MIAMI
Miami has won 11 straight games in Millett Hall since falling to Wright State, 81-68, in its home opener. The RedHawks' lone league loss was a 102-75 defeat at Akron on Jan. 25. Miami ranks first in the MAC with a 49.2 FG% and 39.3 3PTFG% and second in scoring offense (81.4) and scoring margin (+9.1).

Peter Suder leads Miami with 14.4 ppg and 3.3 apg. and plays a team-high 29.0 mpg coming off the bench. Kam Craft and Eian Elmer are also scoring in double digits with 13.8 and 11.5 ppg, respectively.

POST TOUCHES
• Sophomore Sonny Wilson earned a spot on the MAC All-Freshman Team last year and ranks sixth in the MAC with a team-high 15.6 ppg. He ranks second among guards in the MAC and seventh overall with a 52.2 FG%.
• Sophomore Javan Simmons was a unanimous selection for 2023-24 MAC Freshman of the Year and is a member of the 2024-25 Preseason All-MAC First Team. In MAC play, he ranks second with 9.2 rpg and tied for first with 3.9 offensive rpg.
• Sophomore Sam Lewis ranks eighth in the MAC with 15.3 ppg and has a team-high four 20-point outings this season, including a career-high 23 points vs. Northern Illinois (Feb. 1). He also registered back-to-back double-doubles with 13 points and a career-best 11 boards at Purdue (Dec. 29) and 14 points and 10 rebounds at WMU (Jan. 4).

ROAD WARRIORS
The Rockets are 6-5 in road games this season and have posted a 40-24 (.625) win-loss mark in road games since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. Toledo possesses a 63-43 (.594) win-loss mark on enemy courts since the start of the 2017-18 season.

ON THE HORIZON
Toledo will remain on the road to face Eastern Michigan (11-12, 4-6 MAC) in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3:30 p.m.  The Rockets return home next week to host Ball State (11-12, 4-6 MAC) on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and Bowling Green (9-14, 3-7 MAC) on Friday, Feb. 21.
