Rockets grab 200 freestyle relay victory and five other top-three finishes on Saturday
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo defeated Bowling Green, 196-157, in women's swimming tri-meet action at the University of Toledo Student Rec Center Pool on Saturday. The victory marked the first win for Head Coach Jacy Dyer in her first season at the helm of her alma mater. The Rockets also competed against Buffalo, falling 206-147.
Rosie Richards, Janne Slegers, Lucie Morris and Audrey Zimmerman took first-place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.65. The squad edged out second-place Buffalo by .22 seconds and came within .20 seconds of the pool record.
"This team really came together this weekend," said Dyer. :They created their energy on and off the pool deck and we had a blast. I can't count all the personal best, season best, and college best times we went this weekend. I am so proud of everyone! Our seniors really finished up their final college dual meet on such a high note. It was awesome getting to celebrate them and their families and the impact they've made on this team. I can't wait to see everyone showcase their hard work they've put into this whole season at MACs in a couple weeks. It will truly be a special week."
Sophomore Leah Evans earned second-place finishes in both the 100 backstroke (55.26) and the 100 butterfly (55.78). Junior Janne Slegers followed up on her impressive outing on Friday night with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:52.09). Junior Paula Pavillard-Salvador recorded second in the 400 IM event with a final time of 4:33.12.
Combining Friday night's action with Saturday's results, Toledo tallied six individual event titles and top-three finishes in 14 total events. The Rockets grabbed first-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Prior to Saturday's meet, the Rockets celebrated 10 seniors and one student manager - Madeline Blakely Lindsey Creek, Sydney Conrad, Kassie Gutierrez, Annabelle Haberkorn, Caitlin Heinze, Nejla Karic, Lucie Morris, Molly Pressler, Faith Sill and Alicia Zarzo-Ramirez.
