Leah Evans bests two individual pool records while three relay records fall during invitational
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's swimming & diving team broke seven pool records throughout the Blue vs. Gold Invite this weekend at the UT Student Recreation Center.
Junior Leah Evans broke the pool records in the 100 back (53.54) and 200 back (1:57.90) while senior Janne Slegers bested the pool record in the 100 free (49.90). Sophomore Rosie Richards recorded a time of 1:49.18 in the 200 free to set a new pool best.
The 400 free relay team of Richards, Helena Pinto Coelho Lopes, Kenzie Robinson and Janne started off the event on Friday by besting the pool record with a time of 3:24.27.
Richards, Lopes, Claire Kemmere and Slegers touched the wall for a final time of 7:29.79 in the 800 free relay to set the pool record. The final record was set by Robinson, Slegers, Richards and Lopes in the 200 free relay on Sunday with a time of 1:33.34.
Evans won the 50 butterfly (24.32) and 200 backstroke (1:57.90) while Slegers took first in the 50 free (23.18) and the 100 free (50.17) before placing second in the 200 free (1:49.39).
Richards picked up wins in the 500 free (4:55.59), 200 free (1:49.19) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.45). Senior Paula Pavillard-Salvador won the 200 IM (2:09.49) and 400 IM (4:32.19).
Freshman Kenzie Robinson won the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.91 while sophomore Hannah Wentzel took first in the 100 back with a mark of 58.13. Freshman Maggie Spybrook picked up a victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.19.

"While looking at our record board one day, I realized this team is capable of breaking so many of our pool records that have stood for a long time. We decided to host this invitational to not only practice a prelim/final format for MAC Championships, but to also take down as many records as we could. This team did just that. Not only did they break seven pool records, but we had a lot of in season best times and all time best times. This team really stood by each other and had a great time supporting each other. I saw their confidence grow more and more as this meet went on. I'm very proud of the work they put in this weekend and I'm looking forward to continuing Christmas training as we head toward the end of the season."
