Toledo Heads to Florida with Three-Game Winning Streak

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's basketball team will bring a three-game winning streak to the Sunshine State when it opens play at the GEICO Coconut Hoops event on Monday, Nov. 24 vs. Troy in Fort Myers, Fla. The Rockets (3-2) will tip off against the Trojans (4-3) at 11:00 a.m. and face either Belmont (4-0) or Saint Francis (0-4) on Wednesday, Nov. 26 (11:00 a.m./1:30 p.m.).
Both of the Rockets' games will be played at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University and be streamed on FloCollege (subscription required).
Senior Sean Craig is averaging 15.6 ppg and a team-high 8.6 rpg to lead a balanced Toledo offense that has five Rockets scoring in double digits. Junior Sonny Wilson (15.4), freshman Leroy Blyden Jr. (14.8 ppg), senior Kyler Vanderjagt (12.0 ppg), and junior Austin Parks (11.0 ppg) also are in double digits.
Blyden and Craig paced Toledo with 18 points apiece against Youngstown State, with Craig grabbing a season-best 12 rebounds for his first double-double as a Rocket. Blyden also tallied five assists and a game-high four steals.
Toledo shot 53.3% from the field and forced the Penguins to commit 21 turnovers, leading to a 31-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Rockets seized control midway through in the second half with a 14-4 burst that led to a 65-49 cushion with 11:18 remaining. Parks' thunder dunk pushed UT's lead to 21 three minutes later.
Troy opened its season with a 103-97 win at Kent State and has split its last two contests, a 108-107 (2OT) win at San Diego State and a 107-106 (3OT) defeat at USC. Cooper Campbell leads the Trojans with 18.1 ppg and 4.9 apg, while Thomas Dowd is averaging 16.4 ppg and a team-high 11.1 rpg. Victor Valdes ranks second in team scoring with 17.1 ppg.
