Evans tallies final time of 53.23 in 100 back to break program record
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Junior Leah Evans broke her own school record in the 100 backstroke on day one of the West Virginia Invitational on Thursday evening in Morgantown, W. Va.
Evans tallied a final time of 53.23 in the 100 back during the 400 medley relay. The relay team consisting of Evans, Rosie Richards, Maggie Spybrook and Helena Pinto Coehlo Lopes placed ninth overall in the event with a final time of 3:48.06.
In the 200 free relay, the relay team of Lopes, Janne Slegers, Kenzie Robinson and Audrey Zimmerman grabbed a third-place finish when they posted a final time of 1:32.86.
Toledo picked up two top-10 finishes in the 50 freestyle as Slegers took fifth overall (23.24) and Lopes placed seventh (23.52). Freshman Kenzie Robinson followed behind, earning 13th overall (23.64). Richards led the way in the 500 free, recording a time of 4:57.02 to take 12th.
The Rockets began action in the midseason invitational with long course events on Wednesday evening. Evans broke the school record in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.05 which makes the cut for the US Open event. Slegers broke the program record in both the 50 free (26.20) and 100 free (57.21).
