PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Toledo Women's Rowing team took another exciting step in its inaugural season on Saturday, competing in its first collegiate regatta at the Yinzer Cup, hosted by Robert Morris University on the Ohio River.
While no team scores were recorded, the Rockets made their presence felt across multiple events, racing against established programs including Robert Morris, Mercyhurst, and Canisius. This marked Toledo's second-ever regatta and its first against collegiate competition, a milestone moment for the brand-new program.
Toledo fielded three boats in the Varsity 8+, and four in the Varsity 4+ races. UT's first Varsity 8+ boat clocked a time of 16:31.8, finishing behind Canisius. Toledo's "B" boat led the Rocket Varsity 4+ with a time of 13:32.1
Comments from Head Coach Chris Bailey-Green
"The juxtaposition between how the athletes conducted themselves at their very first away regatta and how long they actually have been together is remarkable to compare. We operated today like a team that had been around for years. That is testament to not only the athletes' resiliency, pride, and selflessness towards each other, but also to the assistant coaches and support staff for making everything run seamlessly. We have a lot to build on and the future is bright in Toledo.
"We raced the eights well and the fours even better—can't wait for Philly in two weekends!"
