Toledo looking for fifth-straight victory in series

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team will host its Northwest Ohio rivals in Bowling Green at Savage Arena for the season's first game in the Battle of I-75 on Saturday. Tipoff will be at 2:00 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+ and radio on WCWA 1230 AM and The Varsity Network App.

Toledo is tied for fifth place in the MAC entering the weekend, while Bowling Green is in a three-way tie for seventh.

The Rockets (12-5, 4-3 MAC) fell to Ball State, 77-63 at Worthen Arena on Monday. Nan Garcia led Toledo on the scoresheet and set three season highs, scoring 17 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor and making three baskets from three-point range. Sammi Mikonowicz pitched in with 12 points and eight rebounds. The Rockets enter Saturday's action 7-1 at home this season.

The Falcons (9-9, 3-4 MAC) were defeated by Western Michigan, 63-60, at home on Wednesday. Bowling Green was outscored by the Broncos, 23-12, in the fourth quarter. Erika Porter led BG with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while Amy Velasco added 15 points. BGSU is 1-7 on the road this season.

Rocket fans are encouraged to pack Savage Arena and wear gold! Less than 500 tickets remain for Saturday. General parking is available in parking areas 1 and 2, and premium parking is in lots 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 and 18.

With a win, Toledo can even up the all-time series, which Bowling Green leads, 45-44. UT is 25-16 all-time in the Glass City and has won six of the last seven matchups dating back to 2022.

Rivalry Weekend in Toledo

Saturday's matchup will be the 90th all-time meeting between Toledo and Bowling Green.
Bowling Green is Toledo's most-played opponent, with the two schools being separated by 20 miles on I-75.
The Rockets have won four in a row dating back to 2023 and 12 of the last 15 games dating back to 2015.
The Rockets' last two games in Savage Arena against Bowling Green have drawn 6,086 and 6,077 fans, respectively. Those crowd are goods for fifth and sixth place UT's all-time women's basketball crowds in the venue.

Toledo is 7-1 overall in Savage Arena including 2-1 in MAC home games this season.
Toledo's last two home games have resulted in double-digit victories over Kent State, 70-59, and Ohio, 80-65.
The Rockets have also won their share of close games at the venue this season, winning four times by single digits. UT has also come back in the fourth quarter in three of its home victories.
Toledo had its biggest crowd thus far this season on Jan. 18 against Ohio, drawing 4,337 fans. UT is averaging 4,013 fans this season, good for 32nd in Division I.

Consistent Khera

Khera Goss scored 11 points at Ball State and has now scored in double figures in 10 of her last 11 and 13 times overall this season.
She also shot 5-for-9 from the field, the third consecutive game in which Goss has made at least five field goals and shot 50% or better from the field. The Indianapolis native is shooting 16-of-26 (61.5%) in that span.
Goss scored a career-high 23 points and made a career-high five three-point baskets in the victory against Ohio.
She is sixth in the league in field-goal percentage at 49.3% and in three-point percentage at 39.7%.

Of Note

Toledo is +6.5 in rebounding margin this season, 42nd in Division I. The Rockets have out-rebounded opponents in nine of their last 11 games.
The Rockets' defense has given up just 60.1 points per conference game, and has allowed under 60 points to four of its seven conference foes this year.
Kendall Carruthers sits sixth in the league at 84.6% from the free throw line.
As a team, Toledo has shot 80.0% or better from the line four times in conference play, after doing so just once in non-conference action.
Sammi Mikonowicz recently moved into second place in program history with 992 rebounds for her career. She has secured seven or more rebounds seven times this season.
