Winning goal scored on second opportunity off corner kick
CHICAGO – The Toledo women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat after giving up a goal with 14 seconds left at Loyola Chicago on Thursday.
The Rockets (1-3-1) scored first, but allowed the equalizer before the break. A late set piece led to the winning tally for the Ramblers (4-1-1), who have won all four games at home this season.
Freshman Morgan Spitler supplied Toledo's goal for her first of the year. Junior Agnes Stenlund made four saves on a .667 save percentage on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Toledo will look to rebound on Sunday, Sept. 8 when the Rockets take a trip to Oakland. First kick from Rochester Hills, Mich. is set for 1:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 17' | After an Olivia Dault shot was saved, Morgan Spitler blasted home the rebound from the left side of the box for a 1-0 lead.
- 30' | A hand ball was called in the box on Toledo and Loyola's Emily Rossi converted on the penalty kick in for a 1-1 tie.
- 50' | Grace Turski appeared to have scored for the Rockets, but the goal was called back for offsides.
- 68' | A Dault volley from inside the box nearly chipped the keeper, but the goalie recovered for an out-stretched save.
- 84' | LUC got a breakaway from a through-ball, but Agnes Stenlund came out to make the save.
- 90' | Loyola was awarded a corner kick. After Toledo could not clear the initial attempt, Taylor Harrison finished off a pass overtop the defense from right in front of the goal.
- Loyola led in shots, 15-6, and in shots on goal, 6-4. LUC also held a 4-2 corner kicks advantage for the game.
- Spitler's tally was her first career collegiate goal and marked Toledo's first goal in the opening half this season.
- Toledo has now played each of its first five games within one goal for the first time since 2013.
