Grace Turski tallies game-winning goal in 62nd minute

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team pulled ahead in the 62nd minute on Grace Turski's goal and held the advantage for a 1-0 victory over Detroit Mercy at Paul Hotmer Field on Friday evening.

The Rockets (1-2-1) struck for Turski's winner when a free kick taken by graduate student Tori Lyncha was headed down in the box by senior Olivia Dault. Both Lyncha and Dault were credited with assists on the play. The goal sent the Titans to their fifth straight defeat to start the season.

"I'm really proud of the group and their gritty performance," said Head Coach Mark Batman. "We had some good chances early on, and the group stuck with it and kept grinding through the second half to get the game-winning goal. We earned our first shutout and first regular-season win and I'm very proud of them.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1' | Kaema Amachree got an early breakaway, but the ensuing shot went wide-right.
11' | Morgan Spitler hit a low shot towards the net, but the goalkeeper dove to make the save.
62' | Turski finished off her goal from right in front of the net to give Toledo a 1-0 lead.
63' | Agnes Stenlund made a save on the Titans' first shot on goal, which came from outside the box.
90' | A last Titan shot from 40 yards out was easily saved to wrap up the victory.

STATS AND NOTES

The Rockets led 12-10 in shots and 5-2 in shots on goal.
Toledo earned its fourth consecutive victory over the Titans dating back to 2019. The Rockets have out-scored UDM 14-1 in that streak.
Turski earned her fifth career goal, while Dault picked up her ninth career assist and Lyncha registered her first.
Stenlund earned her 10th victory and eighth shutout in 23 collegiate starts.
