Rockets and Thundering Herd will play first matchup in 20 seasons on Nov. 4
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team will play its 2024-25 season opener in Savage Arena against Marshall on Monday, Nov. 4, per a joint announcement by the Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt Conference on Thursday.

The Rockets' battle with the Thundering Herd will begin the second installment of the MAC-SBC Challenge, which features matchups between all 12 MAC institutions and 12 Sun Belt schools. The MAC women and the Sun Belt men will each host their respective November matchups.

Toledo will later play a road game against a Sun Belt opponent on Feb. 8, 2025, with matchups announced in January based on real-time NET rankings. The participating Sun Belt women's programs and MAC men's programs will host the February contests.

The two teams will meet for the seventh time and first since March 9, 2005, with the all-time series tied at 3-3. Toledo went 2-0 in the MAC-SBC Challenge last season, with a 60-49 road victory in November at James Madison before a 72-57 home triumph against ULM in February.

UT will play its first game under Head Coach Ginny Boggess in the matchup. Toledo went 28-6 last season (17-1 MAC) to clinch its third-consecutive conference title. The Rockets then went on to reach the WBIT quarterfinals in the postseason.

Marshall is the defending Sun Belt regular season and tournament champions, finishing 26-7 (17-1 SBC) last season. The Thundering Herd picked up an overtime victory over JMU in the conference championship to reach the NCAA Tournament, where they were selected as a 13-seed before losing to 4-seed Virginia Tech in the first round.

The November matchup will be the first contest in UT's 11-game non-conference schedule, which was announced on Wednesday. Tip-off time is TBA and all MAC-SBC Challenge games will air on an ESPN platform.
