NORMAN, Okla. – Senior
Barend Botha was named to the NCAA Division I PING All-Midwest Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced this weekend. Botha received all-region accolades for the second time after finishing his career with a school-record 71.9 career stroke average.
Botha was one of 25 individuals recognized from the states of Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio and was the lone representative from the Mid-American Conference.
A George, South Africa native, Botha capped off his outstanding career by repeating as the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Year and becoming the first individual to win back-to-back outright individual titles for the first time in 34 years. He competed in 12 tournaments and posted a 71.5 stroke average that ranks second in program history behind his 70.5 mark as a junior.
Botha is a four-time first-team All-MAC selection and earned MAC Men's Golfer of the Week honors on 10 occasions. He also set a new 54-hole school record along with
Palmer Yenrick with a 13-under par 203 at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 15-16, 2023.
