
Toledo hosts St. John’s on Sunday, the first-ever visit to Savage Arena by the Red Storm and the first Big East team to come to the Glass City since Seton Hall in 2019.

Rockets Host St. John's in Second Round of WBIT on Sunday

No. 2 seed Toledo advanced after defeating Cleveland State on Thursday
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's basketball team will host St. John's in second-round action of the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) on Sunday, March 24 in Savage Arena (2:00 p.m. / ESPN+).
No. 2 seed Toledo defeated Cleveland State 76-68 in the first round in Savage Arena on Thursday, while St. John's defeated No. 3 seed Florida in Gainesville, Fla. on Thursday, 79-60.
The winner of the Toledo-St. John's game will play the winner of the No. 1 seed Washington State-Santa Clara game, which will take place at 4:00 p.m. (ET) on Sunday. The Rockets would host a third-round game on Thursday, March 28 if they defeat St. John's and Santa Clara beats WSU. Washington State would host either Toledo or St. John's if it defeats Santa Clara.
In its win over Cleveland State, Toledo (27-5) trailed by as many as five points in the first half and by two, 28-26, at the half before outscoring CSU 50-40 in the second half to claim the victory. Sophia Wiard scored 15 of her team-high 20 points in the second half and made 8-of-8 free throws in the final minute to lead the Rockets.
Unique Drake scored a career-high 37 points to lead St. John's in a 79-60 win over Florida in Gainesville on Thursday. The Red Storm led by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter before the Gators narrowed the gap in the waning moments.
St. John's (18-14) was 11-7 in Big East play this season, and was knocked out of the Big East Tournament in the first round by No. 6 seed Georgetown, 53-44. The Red Storm's best wins this year were a pair of victories against Marquette (No. 40 NET), as well as triumphs over Villanova (No. 52 NET) and Seton Hall (No. 64 NET).

• St. John's is the first Big East team to play in Savage Arena since Seton Hall in the 2019 WNIT. Toledo won that game, 71-65.
